Playlist Spotlight: autumn

Imagine: You're going on a hike in the mountains. The wind is brisk, the leaves are crisp, and there are no clouds in the sky. You reach the top of the peak, sit, and breathe in the fresh mountain air. For the first time in your life, you are truly relaxed.

Hey guys, gals, and non-binary pals!

As you can tell from the title of this post, instead of giving you a collection of 5 songs to fuel your week, I decided to share one of my oldest and most treasured playlists to commemorate the start of the autumnal season. Like most people, autumn has a special place in my heart. I love to be outside, taking in the fresh air and listening to the melodious (and sometimes cacophonous) sounds of the world around me. Hikes, walks, and picnics are some of my favorite activities to do during this time of year. When I'm not outside, soaking up the autumn rays and crisp winds, you'll find me inside, curling up on the couch reading a much-overdue novel of mine. As an intuitive extrovert, I find autumn fueling my need for reflection and introspection while also giving me the opportunity to share the outdoors with friends and family. It's the season I can feel most myself in and it's one I treasure so close to my heart.

The playlist I share with you all this week is called, "autumn": a true testament to the vibrant, soft atmosphere of the fall season. Featured on this playlist are tracks that make me feel warm inside, whether it be due to deep introspection or the familiar strum of an acoustic guitar. The instrumentation of this playlist is rather sparse, focusing more on simple rhythms and harmonization rather than showing off impressive modulation. However, I think it is mirrors autumn quite well. Autumn is not showy, nor boastful about its skills. It is effortless and naturally beautiful, but unapologetically raw. It showcases its best and worst features willingly to the world without fear of disdain. This playlist pairs perfectly with the serenity of autumn and fuels many a introspective evening alone, or an appreciation of quiet moments with friends. May you find a love for autumn through the musical talents of Hozier, Adam Melchor, The Paper Kites, and Sam Burchfield.

Enjoy. And, as always, peace.
